New KS HOSA State Advisor Minimize

Hello, I'm Larry Beam the new state advisor for KS HOSA.  I am a native Kansan who grew up in rural America and became a public school teacher.  I spent thirty-four years as a teacher, coach and administrator.  Sandwiched into that timeframe I completed twenty-eight years in the United States Army.  I am married and we have two married sons and three grandchildren.

I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to work for an outstanding organization with quality school advisors and exceptional students in the many representative high schools/colleges in the great state of Kansas.

Together we will grow the organization and be able to provide our student members opportunities to become the best in the healthcare field.  I look forward to getting to know each of you personally and working collectively in the best interest of our organization.

I may be contacted by email (
larry.beam@washburn.edu) or by phone (785/670-1823).

Welcome

Welcome to the Kansas HOSA website!  Kansas HOSA, in affiliation with the National HOSA organization (HOSA), is a student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.  Kansas HOSA exclusively serves secondary and postsecondary students who are interested in, planning to pursue or pursuing a career in the health professions.

Kansas HOSA enhances the personal and professional development of its members by giving them the opportunity to participate in State Leadership Conferences and Competitive Events, which increase their medical skills and knowledge, public speaking skills, and the ability to communicate effectively.  Through many such events, students are given the opportunity to work with others as part of a team, thereby fostering their ability to work effectively with others.  Eligible winners of the State conference competitions may compete at HOSA's annual National Leadership Conference, where they are given the opportunity to meet HOSA members from across the nation.

The Kansas Executive Council consists of students who are elected each year by their peers at the Kansas HOSA Fall Leadership Conference.  These students take an active role in the planning and conducting of our Spring Leadership Conference each year.  Along with members of other Career and Technical School organizations from our state, our Executive council members participate in Joint Officer Training to improve their leadership and communication skills, and Citizenship Day, where they have an opportunity to meet their legislators and State leaders.

Members are affiliated with Kansas HOSA through local HOSA chapters at schools they attend.  Currently, Kansas HOSA has approximately 400 members from secondary and postsecondary schools throughout the state of Kansas.
